How to Train Your Dog to Stop Stealing Food from the Counter

I love to give my dogs a good treat now and then; I might even invite them to come help “clean up” some spilled food if I know it’s safe for them. The thing is, though, I want to make sure my dogs are only taking food on invitation; NOT

Why Your Dog Won’t Sit from a Down (and how to train them to)

Posted on July 11, 2022July 8, 2022 Kimee

Many dog owners delight after teaching their dog to sit only to find themselves repeating “sit, sit, sit!” in vain when it comes to getting their dog to sit once they’re already lying down. You know your dog knows how to sit, and yet there your dog is, belly on

How to Stop a Dog from Eliminating in the Crate

Posted on June 27, 2022June 27, 2022 Kimee

Every once in a while, I will have a dog come in for a housetraining kickstart board-and-train who has already become comfortable doing their business in their crate. This complicates the potty training process, because typically the crate is a useful tool to help us signal to the dog that

The Economics of Dog Behavior

Posted on June 22, 2022June 22, 2022 Kimee

“Everybody has a price.” This is true of humans, and of all functioning living creatures. In the animal world, dogs included, every behavior has a price point, a consequence or consequences that make the behavior worthwhile or simply too pricey. People and animals alike are driven by the same system

A Message from the Trainer

dog trainers washington state

In early days just starting out in dog training, I used to provide my clients with printed writeups to help support them during and after training. Now, I’ve taken that material and put together this blog in its place, as one of our free resources to support not just our clients but also struggling dog owners everywhere. Here you will find information on dog training, pet care, canine health, nutrition, and conditioning, and even glimpses into the “behind the scenes” of our hands-on training. It is my hope that you will always be able to refer to this page to learn whatever it is you may need to know to empower you on your journey as leader of your life and of your dogs.
