Is It OK to Send Your Dog Away for Training?

Posted on June 17, 2022June 17, 2022 Kimee

One of the concerns that a lot of clients come to me with is the fear that their dog will be sad or lonely during one of our board-and-train programs. They wonder if they’re being mean by wanting to send their dog off to “doggy bootcamp” and worry that their

Embark vs. Wisdom Panel (We Tried Both)

Posted on June 13, 2022June 13, 2022 Kimee

One of my personal dogs, Grimm, is what I affectionately refer to as a “genetic nightmare.” He’s a very mixed-breed dog with a mystery background that I got at a shelter many years ago. In fact, he’s the very dog that introduced me to behavior modification training, which I talk

How to Stop Dog Marking in the House

Posted on June 13, 2022June 25, 2022 Kimee

Marking in the house is frustrating. It can feel like a constant battle of cleaning carpets, washing household items, and the insidious smell of pee that you can’t quite place the origin of. It can be incredibly disheartening and frankly feel personal when your dog is marking in the home.

Posted on June 10, 2022June 10, 2022 Kimee

Pee pads, potty pads, or puppy pads (depending on who you ask) are very popular these days, and understandably so. Many dog owners are gone for a chunk of the day, and reason that they’d prefer their dog have a mess-free way to eliminate while their owners are away at

How (and Why) to Train Your Dog to Ring a Bell

Posted on June 8, 2022June 8, 2022 Kimee

What is Dog Bell Training? Some dog owners like to give their dogs a means to let them know when to go outside for a potty break. There are a lot of ways to do this, but one of the most common (and maybe one of the easiest) is to

The Dog Fight that Made Me Quit

Posted on June 7, 2022June 7, 2022 Kimee

In 2017, I was fresh into the professional dog training scene, and eager to get as much hands-on time with dogs as possible. At the time I was in my early twenties and had more time on my hands than I do these days, as I was building clientele up

Dog Trainer Tries Pet Plate’s Organic Dog Treats

Posted on June 5, 2022June 5, 2022 Kimee

I’m always on the search for new tools and treats to help me diversify my dog training. I’ve tried raw dog treats, homemade dog treats, and just about every brand that frequents the pet store shelves. Then, a recent client sent their board-and-train dog to me with some treats from

Why We Don’t Recommend Dog Parks (and what you can do instead)

Posted on May 30, 2022May 30, 2022 Kimee

When I first got my dog, Grimm, several years ago, I made a habit of taking him to the dog park a few times a week. At the time it seemed like a great idea. But if I could go back in time and give myself a piece of advice,

How to Keep Your Dog Cool in Pacific Northwest Summers

Posted on May 28, 2022May 28, 2022 Kimee

Summers are changing here in Washington State and the rest of the Pacific Northwest. In the almost twenty years that I’ve lived in Western Washington, summer has gone from mild to very hot, sometimes into triple-digits. This may not seem like a lot to those of you reading from places

A Message from the Trainer

dog trainers washington state

In early days just starting out in dog training, I used to provide my clients with printed writeups to help support them during and after training. Now, I’ve taken that material and put together this blog in its place, as one of our free resources to support not just our clients but also struggling dog owners everywhere. Here you will find information on dog training, pet care, canine health, nutrition, and conditioning, and even glimpses into the “behind the scenes” of our hands-on training. It is my hope that you will always be able to refer to this page to learn whatever it is you may need to know to empower you on your journey as leader of your life and of your dogs.
